Rehearsing The Future

A keynote talk coming soon

When we think about the future we tend to think about science fiction. A film played out in a future world. With stories often enabled by imagined or advanced technologies. These are a form of speculative fiction to entertain us, but also to help us think about the human condition. And generally come from the mind of a singular author or director.

But how should companies think about the future? To be honest, Sci - fi isn’t much help. It’s too far ahead and not built to tell the stories of everyday people in their everyday future worlds. Hardly useful and directional for business decision-making.

But in my work I am inspired by film and theatre. Not the worlds and stories they tell, but the techniques of development and pre production they use. utilising theatrical techniques to explore, interrogate and understand how future experiences might feel. From script writing, storyboarding, improv, table reads, stagger-throughs to prototyping how the experience feels.
