Design innovation & strategy for expert teams

Hey Logitech

I’m Matthew, an industrial designer specialising in the early stages of design and product definition. I collaborate with strategy and design teams in globally respected companies, management consultants and design studios.

Finding advantage in disruption

Rehearsing the future

I explore the human and business potential of emerging technologies through speculative design and storytelling. Often with innovation in the user experience and product archetypes. Giving you the freedom to iterate, test and learn before having to be judged against ‘business as usual’ metrics. In order to find new avenues of opportunity, gain strategic insights and inform your future product development.

HTC mixed realities

I helped them explore mixed reality in the home. Giving physical objects digital powers beyond screen and graphic annotation. In a world where the physical and the digital are intimately connected.

Logitech collaborations

Working with Alastair Curtis and Map Project Office, I explored the future of audio in the home, beyond music. And with David Day, immersive entertainment experiences for family and friends powered by whole room computing.

Ambient interface

A physical UI that complements the home environment, and allows us, our family, and guests to know its level of intelligence. To understand the capabilities of the room, the level of technology observance and the appropriate social etiquettes to adopt.

Getting opportunities up and running

Innovation Catalyst

I establish product and service concepts built from your validated research and growth opportunities. In order to accelerate and de-risk their early stages of development. To help you get buy in from stake holders and allow internal teams to move to the next stage.

Sky interactive TV

Design, prototyping and validation of product and service concepts for a North Star for their interactive TV platform powered by computer vision and machine learning. To inspire and direct internal development.

OVO Energy Path to Zero

A target customer experience and new digital product and service concepts. To align and inspire internal teams as they scale the buying, installation and running of green energy technology products.

Logitech Kids

Working with Nick Jinkinson and his ID team in Taiwan I developed and tested product propositions and early concepts that fostered a positive experience with technology through play and creation, to avoid passive consumption.

Challenging today’s convention

Changing the way products are made

Since 2013 when I helped Fairphone design the world’s first modular, repairable smartphone, I’ve been exploring more radical ways to change the way products are made. For global companies committed to transforming their legacy linear supply chains. For real impact not just market acceptance and regulatory compliance.

Fairphone FP2

I helped design the Fairphone 2. A smartphone build from the ground up for customer repair and enhanced ethics in the supply chain. Achieving the only 10/10 repairability score iFixit has ever given for a smartphone. Turning owners into advocates for their mission to change the way products are made.

The Last iMac you’ll ever need

Inspired by the launch of the latest generation of iMac I wrote for Fast Company. Speculating on the possibility of Apple’s design team creating the next generation from the remanufactured remnants of their existing products. To close the loop on their supply chain.

Panasonic 2033 Circular Archetype

Through a series of ‘future-driven’ workshops and design challenges I helped established a POV on circularity for Panasonic in collaboration with senior leadership across their product supply chain. Developing a North Star Circular Design Brief for 2033 to drive further internal development.
